Additional mAJOR PROJECTS Planned-Beyond Strawberry canyon

Beyond Strawberry Canyon........

While the Strawberry Canyon project is a serious threat to the existing environment, there are at least 4 other large projects planned for the vicinity:

Claremont Canyon-North Slope

We expect the draft EA for this ~45 acre project to be released for review by late February. This FEMA-funded project will result in the cutting of an additional 12k trees on UC property in the upper Claremont Canyon.

Caldecott Field

It is unknown how many trees will be cut in this project, but the numbers will likely be in the 10k range as well. This is a City of Oakland project, again funded by FEMA pre-disaster mitigation funds.

Frowning Ridge

This UC project, funded by FEMA, will result in cutting the trees between the Strawberry Canyon project and the Claremont Canyon project. Although we don’t have an exact count, we expect that this project will result in the loss of roughly twice the number of trees as the Claremont or Strawberry Canyon projects, or in excess of 20k trees.

East Bay Regional Park District measure CC projects

Although these projects are probably a year out, they will likely be very significant in scope as well. Please see the EBRPD project maps on the following page.
