EBRPD is just finishing up yet another excellent fire risk mitigation project just north of the site of last year’s disastrous clearcut. In this case EBRPD has gone in and thinned the remaining eucalyptus grove and removed all the low-lying fire ladder fuels. As in the case of the Mid-Canyon Phase 2 project, the results are fabulous. Canopy has been preserved, the fire risk has been minimized, and the ecology/esthetics have been left intact. This project is another example of the fact that fire risk can be effectively mitigated while preserving ecology and habitat.
